In July 2026, my late friend and legendary 9NEWS photojournalist Corky Scholl was posthumously inducted into the prestigious Silver Circle by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Corky wasn’t just a master storyteller behind the lens; he was a pioneer dedicated to preserving Denver’s history through his Save the Signs project (0:54). Our paths crossed over a shared passion for public infrastructure and a random conversation about having the same taste in hats—a meeting that grew into a deep, creative brotherhood (2:08).
I had the profound honor of writing a letter of recommendation for his induction, and our collaborative tribute sign went on to win a 2026 Heartland Regional Emmy Award. Watch the official Silver Circle induction video below to see Corky’s incredible impact on our community, his daughter Amelia’s beautiful words, and my own reflections on working alongside a true creative master (3:44).
